NetCube CEO Dong-ho Yoo Presents 5G Specialized Network Security Threats and Countermeasures

  • 2024-09-09

NetCube Inc.'s CEO Dong-ho Yoo delivered a presentation on '5G Specialized Network Security Threats and Countermeasures' at the PNT Summit 2024, held at KINTEX Exhibition Center on September 6th. This 5G specialized network conference was a side event of the 1st Private Network Technology Industry Exhibition 'PNT Fair 2024', aimed at introducing 5G specialized network construction technologies, equipment, and references from various perspectives, and sharing the latest trends among industry professionals.

NetCube develops network authentication, IP mobility, and self-operating authentication solutions for smart work, smart factories, and public infrastructure, and is recognized for its expertise in 5G specialized network utilization and security technologies based on network slicing.

During the conference presentation, CEO Yoo shared background knowledge about 5G and 5G specialized network technologies, explaining various security vulnerabilities and potential attacks threatening 5G specialized networks. He then introduced new security measures that need to be considered separately from existing IT and OT security to overcome these communication network-specific challenges that traditional security technologies struggle to resolve.

CEO Yoo stated, "5G specialized networks are technologies that allow enterprises to privately adopt 5G originally developed for mobile communication services. They are essentially a scaled-down version of mobile carriers' nationwide networks, making it challenging to control all threats through existing corporate wired and wireless network security solutions. Particularly, security systems optimized for the 5G specialized network environment, including IoT terminals, 5G specialized network cores, and O-RAN base stations, must be considered in their construction and operation."

Meanwhile, 5G specialized networks enable network slicing, a basic 5G function, allowing separation of internet and business networks for each slice and application of unique authentication policies. Through NetCube's self-developed network slicing platform NSure solution, unique policies can be applied by application or group when expanding 5G specialized networks to smart factories, smart cities, thereby enhancing security resilience.

Additionally, NetCube recently acquired domestic sales rights from CTOne, a global CT (Communication) security company based in Taiwan, and is supplying a Mobile Network Security (MNS) solution to the domestic 5G specialized network market. This solution provides endpoint protection and visibility across the entire specialized network using only USIM, without installing agent software on devices.
