2024 global network improvement project

The challenge

Korean Air operates 220 sites worldwide, including its headquarters. As part of a global network overhaul, it needed to bring the access authentication and IP management scattered across branches into one system, and solve the following at the same time.

  • Control unauthorized access to the internal network
  • Manage access rights by user, group and location
  • Gain visibility and control over devices, not just users
  • Manage shared PCs and IoT assets, with a known owner for every asset's IP

Why NPass

  • Integrates with the SDN network

Authenticates wired and wireless access together on top of the SDN-based network.

  • IPs managed in one place

Assigns IPs to every device in the main headquarters buildings and the domestic and overseas branches from one place, and tracks who is using each one.

  • Seamless integration with global IAM

Integrates wired and wireless network authentication seamlessly with the global IAM solution in use across the company.

  • Proven on a large campus

Reliability confirmed over 15 years of operation on a manufacturing customer's campus.

How it was deployed

  • Selected for the 2024 global network improvement project
  • Unified wired and wireless authentication and IP mobility deployed across all 220 sites worldwide, including headquarters
  • Operated in integration with the SDN-based network
  • Operated in integration with Layer 3 NAC
  • NPass handles network access authentication and unified DHCP for every device at headquarters, the main buildings, and the domestic and overseas branches

Results

  • 220 sites

Headquarters and all domestic and overseas branches run on one authentication system

  • Wired and wireless unified

The same authentication and access rights apply to wired and wireless

  • Unified IP management

IPs for headquarters and branches assigned from one place and managed together with their users
